BUILD A SOLID FOUNDATION

Matthew 7:24-25, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”

Why is it that, so often today, there seems to be a barrier between hearing God’s Word and putting it into practice? While many hear the Word, are inspired by the Truth and are motivated to do what is right when the message is shared, many times the problem is a lack of translation from what is heard to what we do. Jesus Christ made it clear in His parable that the only way to build a solid foundation on which to build your life is by being the doer of the Word.

Knowledge of God’s Word is important but it does not build a firm foundation, able to withstand the storms of life, without understanding and applying it to our daily lives. Knowledge of the Word may only require the state of your mind but understanding of the Word demands for the state of your heart. The Spirit, which gives life, gives illumination, understanding and therefore application. And the Spirit of God requires the state of the heart.

The secret lies in the consistency of your connection with God. Many of us today seem to be content in a state of disconnection and we are surprised when we are not downloading revelation. When you receive the Word of God during a church service on Sunday, you should not expect the nourishment received for one day to last the whole week. There’s no shortcut to spiritual maturity or to heavenly understanding – you must spend daily time with God!

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, help me to build a solid foundation by acting on Your Word. Help me to remain consistent in my approach to my relationship with You by keeping my heart hungry for Your Word and open to Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
