Judges 16:20, “And she said, ‘The Philistines are upon you, Samson!’ So he awoke from his sleep, and said, ‘I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!’ But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.”
One of the first things God did in creating the world was to separate light from darkness. This enabled mankind to navigate life and discern right from wrong through clarity of sight. However, the ability to see goes far beyond the physical. In fact, there are many who possess perfect vision with their physical eyes yet are spiritually blind. When you believe that the truth of God’s Word does not apply to your situation, know that you are spiritually blind. There is nothing more dangerous than darkness perceived as light and wrong perceived as right.
Samson is a good example of this truth; he was spiritually blind long before he became physically blind. What was the evidence of spiritual blindness? If you don’t know when God is with you, you will not know when He has left. If you are not conscious of God’s presence, you will not be conscious of His absence. Samson was in an ungodly relationship and thought he could get away with it. The consequences of his actions did not immediately strike, so he was lulled into a false sense of security as his conscience was being dulled to the truth of God’s Word. The day that consequence struck, he did not even know God had left him.
What can we learn from this? The enjoyment of sin leads to entrapment of soul if there is no repentance. You may feel you are getting away with wrongdoing, but it is getting away with you! Piece by piece, little by little, your conscience is being dulled to the point where you become spiritually blind. Hebrews 12:1 tells us that sin easily entangles. So while sin may be very enticing, it is very entangling; it may start with enjoyment; it will end with ensnarement. Repentance is the only way out.
Prayer: Ask God to reveal to you those areas in your life where your conscience has been dulled and your spiritual eyes have become blinded to the truth of God’s Word through the entanglement of sin. Ask God for His mercy and begin to see life clearly in Jesus’ name.
