OVERCOME WHEN TEMPTATION STRIKES

1 Corinthians 10:13-14, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be temptedbeyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.”

God knows we are weak – that is why He always provides a way of escape when temptation strikes. But this wonderful promise is accompanied by a condition and an instruction to flee from idolatry. So disconnect from anything that tries to disconnect you from God because anything you place above God in your heart becomes your god.

When you set your heart on the things of above and flee from sin, temptation will come but you will overcome with the help of the Holy Spirit. But if your heart is set on the fleeting pleasures of this world, when temptation comes it will overcome you, and your weakness will wound you.

When you justify weakness that leads to sin, you are opening a door that is beyond your power to close! You may not have the power to stop it, but you have the power to stop feeding it. Starve your weakness and feed your strength! Position yourself for the Holy Spirit to help you and He will.

There’s no perfect person; we all make mistakes. When you are fleeing from sin and you make a mistake, you will learn from it. But when you flirt with sin and fall into it, you will end up repeating it. You may express momentary regret to mitigate any immediate consequence, but there’s no real repentance fuelled by the prompting of your conscience by the Holy Spirit. Real repentance springs from within. The evidence is not superficial remorse, but learning from your mistake. When your mistakes become a tool that matures you spiritually know that you’re on the right track with God.

God always provides a way out for His children but it can only be discerned when your heart is set on the things of above. It’s only when you seek God’s heart that you can truly see life clearly.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, as I come to You by faith, thank You for promising that You will come near to me. Purify my heart, in Jesus’ Name, amen.
