John 15:10, “If you keep My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commands and remain in His love.”
Seasons come and go, celebrations cease, and rest time returns to the demands of routine schedules. So how will you maintain the peace, love and joy of Christmas after the celebration?
While the world may give a temporary sense of peace and joy, Christ offers us peace that goes beyond the grave and joy that nothing can destroy. That is why He said in John 14:27, “I do not give to you as the world gives.” What God gives remains when we maintain our relationship with Him. To remain in His love, maintain your relationship with Him by obeying His instructions.
As we approach another New Year, we cannot afford to grow cold in our devotion with Him, to de-prioritise what will sustain and prepare us for the challenges ahead. A Christian is one whose strength is greater than their weakness because they spend more time nurturing their spirit than their flesh. People of God, it’s the level of God’s Word in your heart that determines your response to the heat of temptation that can lead you down that road of disobedience. It is the Word of God treasured, kept, nurtured and nourished in your heart that the Holy Spirit will use to prompt your conscience to say, ‘no’ to sin and, ‘yes’ to righteousness.
So, what are you storing up in your spirit? What are you giving your attention to? While we may face temptation in this wicked world, when your spirit governs your senses, you will quickly retract and realign with God’s Word and His sovereign Will for your life. Remain in God’s Word to maintain your relationship with Him. Keep focusing on and obeying the Good News to maintain your relationship with God that will produce great joy, peace and love that nothing can destroy.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, as I feed my soul with Your Word, help me to turn away from anything that would turn me away from You. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
