Luke 17:17-19, “So Jesus answered and said, ‘Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?’ And He said to him, ‘Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.’”
The Bible makes clear that no matter the situation, God can make a way where there seems to be no way. But take note: He will not make a way for you that takes you away from Him. In other words, God will not make a way for you that takes you outside of His ways. That is why there is need to check that the motive for praying and seeking God is for more than just a miracle, more than just an encounter or an experience with God. You must see beyond the miracle to what really matters – your relationship with God.
In Luke 17:11-19, ten lepers pleaded for Jesus’ mercy just like many people today who come to God asking Him to clean up the mess created by a failure to follow His process. While God’s mercy reached them where they were, it was not to keep them where they were. He breaks your chains to free you to change. Jesus Christ broke the chains of leprosy to free them to make a change, not for them to remain the same. It appears that it was only one man among the ten who recognised the reason for the miracle – that is why he returned to give God the glory.
If you are ready for your encounter with the Chain-breaker you must be ready to make a change because the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, righteousness and judgement (John 16:8). When Jesus Christ heals, blesses and delivers you, He does so for you to follow Him, to honour Him, to serve Him. Prayer: Ask the Holy Spirit to open your spiritual eyes to see the areas you need to change. Ask Jesus Christ, the Perfecter of your faith, to manifest His strength in your weakness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
