John 15:3, “You are already clean because of the Word which I have spoken to you.”
People of God, there is purifying power in the Living Word of God! No matter the degree of our dirtiness, God’s Word can wipe away every stain and pain of the past. God’s purifying Word resets your focus back to the truth of God’s opinion about you and shifts your attention from the lies of the devil connected to your past. God never consults our past to determine our present or our future. That is why we need to let the past be past.
Taking unhealthy journeys into yesterday simply wastes precious time and spoils the opportunities God gives us to use the grace of today. So stay current! Faith acts now, faith believes now and faith receives now because our God is God of now!
When it comes to relationships, don’t remind each other of past pain, hurt or mistakes. When you do: you are reopening the wounds God has already provided healing for; you are polluting the cleansing process of Christ’s Word in your heart; and you are championing the devil’s conclusions about your life, your marriage or your family. The only acceptable time to remind someone of the past is to testify to God’s goodness, to remind them of God’s track record. Avoid the trap of looking back unless it is to glorify God.
In our dealings with the devil, we should remember our position as a victor – we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. The devil is a defeated foe. Whenever the devil comes to remind you of your past, simply remind him of his future.
As a Christian, your past is over and your future is bright in Him, secure in Him and glorious in Him! So stop filtering today through the lens of yesterday.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for entering my life to put an end to my past and for giving birth to my future that is secure in You. I choose to focus, not on the future I fear but on the future You have planned and predestined for me. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
