Psalm 119:49-50, “Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life.
It is common today that in an attempt to relieve a problem, many people find themselves returning to another. The mismanagement of a situation can cause an even worse problem. It is true that in this journey of life there can be stressful situations, tough days, difficult moments. But who or what you turn to in the face of that stress determines how you face it. The fact that a situation seems overwhelming does not mean you should be overwhelmed by it. The evidence that you are an overcomer is that you can face an overwhelming situation – that stress, that trouble, that challenge that seems so overwhelming – without responding to it with a wrong response.
God has promised to comfort us in affliction. The promise of God is not the absence of affliction, stress or trials. The promise of God is comfort in that trial and peace in the midst of that affliction. When you understand God’s Word, nothing will overwhelm your faith or cause you to take actions that compromise your faith. That’s the power in the Word of God! The Word of God has the power to change us from the inside out. Oftentimes the change in us is the key to seeing the change around us.
Hope in the promises of God translates to acting faith in the present. The hope you hold on to will hold you through whatever life brings to you. The hope you seize onto sees you through whatever God permits to happen to you. May God give you the grace to find comfort in affliction by holding fast to the truth of God’s Word.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ give me the strength of an overcomer. Manifest Your strength in my weaknesses. Strengthen me to see the bigger picture through an understanding of God’s Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
