Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
People of God, if God had chosen grace rather than works no one of us would merit His mercy. Never forget that being a Christian is not about what you do – it’s about what Christ has done. Because He did, we can do. Therefore, we should not ask, ‘What must I do to earn salvation?’ but ‘what can I do, because of that gift of salvation I have been freely given?’
The world emphasises man’s natural talent, strength, skills and abilities as key ingredients for a successful life. But as Christians, we cannot earn God’s gift of salvation. Never elevate toil above grace. Never elevate sweat above surrender. This does not diminish the importance of hard work, but no amount of hard work or effort can earn you the gift of salvation. We work hard, but our work is subject to His work in us and through us.
Christianity cannot be fully enjoyed unless it is truly embraced. So today, strive from a place of surrender to the One who bore your sins for you and thrive in the peace of surrender to the One who has good plans for you. If you don’t count the cost, you will soon carry the cost, but if you count the cost, you will soon count the blessings.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, today I choose to fully surrender to Your Will. Help me to be ever thankful for what You have done and recognise that it’s by Your grace that I am saved. In Jesus’ name, amen.
