Titus 2:3-5, “the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behaviour, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things – that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.”
Are you conscious that your life speaks – what is it saying? Do you both know God’s Word and show it by the way you live? Apostle Paul admonished his disciple, Titus, to remind the older women of the responsibility they have toward the younger women – to be reverent in their behaviour so that their lived example would have a sharpening influence on them.
Today, many people’s lives do not match their confession of Christ – where their self-centred behaviour speaks louder than their lip service. Instead of iron sharpening iron, a lack of integrity leaves them dull and rusted, allowing their weakness to overshadow any positive influence. The reality is that we have been commissioned to be responsible in relationship with others. How can a life of hypocrisy help those watching us, wondering what it really means to be a Christian? We are Christ’s representatives and have been called to represent Him well.
Whether you are conscious of it or not, your life has an impact on those around you. So, within the sphere of your influence, what example are you showing? You may not know the impact your life, your words, your seed can have on others, perhaps those who don’t even know you physically. When you do what is right, you shine a light that carries the power to pierce darkness. Your life speaks louder than your lips. What message is it saying?
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, help me to do what is right and shine a light in this dark world. Give me the grace to represent You well in how I live my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
