James 1:7-8, “For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
People of God, the book of James makes clear that the sign of your readiness to receive what God has in store for you is your willingness to give Him your full attention. While society has adopted a ‘double-mindedness’ mentality, as Christians – the ‘called-out’ ones – we are to be consistent in our approach to God. We should not join the double-minded generation who are unstable in all their ways! If you look back, your past can easily mislead you. If you look around, your situation can easily mislead you. If you look at yourself, your own feelings and emotions can easily mislead you. But if you look up, if you let your hearts rise and focus on God, He will never lead you astray nor leave you alone.
Are you willing to give Him the undivided attention that He deserves? To give that attention, you must deal with every distraction. What is standing between you and God? Are you focused on the pain of the past? The Bible plainly links unforgiveness to unanswered prayer. Jesus said in Mark 11:25-26, “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” The fact that you experienced hurt in the past does not mean you have to hold that hurt in the present. Stop allowing an unforgiving attitude to define you and start focusing on the One who forgave you.
Prayer: O Holy Spirit, open my eyes to see clearly, to identify those areas I need to change and those people I need to forgive. In Jesus’ name, amen.
