Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
In today’s Scripture, we remind ourselves of Jesus Christ’s timeless invitation – to come to Him and receive His rest. But take note, Jesus does not promise us rest from all our problems; He promises us rest for our souls. A soul at rest is a soul so blessed!
It is a misconception to believe that being a Christian eliminates life’s temptations. There will be thorns in our flesh – things that can penetrate the external, material, temporal but not the spirit which is eternal. This means that it’s possible for your flesh to be distressed while your soul is at rest. Divine intervention does not eliminate temptation. When you accept Jesus’ invitation to come to Him, a storm around you does not have to be a storm within you.
We should never see God as a means to get out of a mess. But when you seek God, you will understand what got you into that mess. There is a great blessing in understanding what got you into a mess because that will help keep you out of it. This spiritual enlightenment can only come through sincere reflection on and devotion to the truth in God’s Word. That is when your mess can become a message telling the world that there is hope and Jesus Christ is that hope!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You that You invite us to come. Today I choose to accept that invitation and receive rest for my soul. Help me to have a right reflection on my situation as I remain devoted to Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
